Our Story
When Staci Berrey became a mother in 2009, she realized that birth is about far more than bringing a baby into the world, it's one of the most pivotal experiences in a woman's life, deserving of support, respect, and compassionate care.
Inspired by that belief, she founded Labor of Love Birth Services in 2012 to ensure no family has to navigate pregnancy, birth, or postpartum alone. What began as one doula serving local families grew into Orange County's first birth and postpartum doula agency, supporting more than 1,000 families over the past 14+ years while mentoring over 50 birth and postpartum doulas.
Today, Staci continues to lead Labor of Love's trusted team while expanding her mission through Sacred Woman Collective, creating women's circles, retreats, and community gatherings that nurture connection, healing, and belonging beyond the childbearing years. Whether supporting a woman through birth or helping her rediscover herself in a circle of community, her purpose remains the same: to ensure women feel seen, supported, and never have to navigate life's transitions alone.

What does a birth doula do? Unlike your medical provider, a doula focuses entirely on your comfort, confidence, and overall birth experience—helping you navigate decisions, use comfort measures, support your birth partner, and feel empowered every step of the way. Do you support epidurals and cesarean births? Absolutely. At Labor of Love, we believe every birth deserves compassionate, personalized support. Our doulas work alongside your medical team to support all types of births, including medicated births with epidurals, planned and unplanned cesarean births, VBACs, inductions, and unmedicated births. Our role isn't to promote a particular birth plan—it's to provide continuous emotional, physical, and evidence-based support so you feel informed, empowered, and cared for, regardless of how your baby is born.
What hospitals do you serve? We support families at nearly every hospital throughout Orange County, as well as local birth centers and home births. We regularly attend births at Hoag, MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center, Providence St. Joseph Hospital, UCI Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, Orange Coast Medical Center, St. Jude Medical Center, and many others. If you're planning to give birth in Orange County, chances are we've supported families at your chosen birth location and are familiar with its policies, environment, and care teams.
Are birth doula services covered by insurance? Yes, many birth doula services are now covered by insurance. Labor of Love Birth Services is able to directly bill Kaiser Permanente and Health Net for eligible members. If you have a different insurance plan, you may also be eligible for reimbursement through your out-of-network, HSA, or FSA benefits. Our team is happy to help you understand your coverage and provide the documentation needed to maximize your benefits.
